FIRE SAFETY
Basic Prevention
- Have monitored smoke detectors installed throughout your home.
- Test smoke detectors weekly.
- Replace smoke detector batteries annually.
- Keep replacement batteries for detectors on hand.
- Develop and rehearse a fire escape plan with your family.
- Know how to escape your home in the dark.
- Pre-arrange a meeting place safely away from your home for all to go immediately after escaping.
When Confronted with Fire
- Gather children and disabled persons and leave your home–immediately!
- Stay close to the floor in a crawling position while escaping.
- Call the fire department only after you are safely out of your home.
- Never go back into the home to retrieve material objects.
- To hamper the spread of fire, close doors behind you when escaping.
- Do not attempt to fight the fire–wait for the Fire Department.
