HOME INVASION / BURGLARY PREVENTION
Home Invasion
Unlike burglars, home invaders usually seek a confrontation with the homeowner. They operate with the notion that once inside the home they can work privately, without unexpected interruption by the homeowner or law enforcement.
Basic Prevention
- Keep your security system armed while at home.
- Never rely on a chain-latch as a barrier for a partially-opened door.
- Alert your neighbors to suspicious solicitors and delivery/service persons.
- Verify the identity of workers before they enter your home by asking for ID.
- A wide-angle viewer or camera system helps in identifying visitors.

Burglary
Burglars usually do not want a confrontation with the homeowner. Their motivation is a quick theft without detection.
Basic Prevention
- Do not place valuables where they are easily visible from windows/doors.
- Change locks when moving into a new location or when keys are lost.
- Never leave garage door openers or keys in vehicles parked outdoors.
- When not in use, store tools and ladders in locked storage areas.
- Keep a home inventory of electronics and other valuables in a safe.
